In a strategic move to broaden its international presence, Abu Dhabi’s ADNEC Group has completed the acquisition of the Business Design Centre (BDC) in London through its subsidiary, ExCeL London. This acquisition marks another significant expansion for ADNEC, adding a highly reputed exhibition and conference venue to its portfolio.
The Business Design Centre, located in the vibrant district of Islington, has a rich history dating back to 1862 when it was originally established as the Royal Agricultural Hall. This Grade II-listed building now spans a 4.5-acre freehold estate, drawing over 900,000 visitors annually to its renowned exhibitions, trade shows, and public events. The BDC has become a central hub for the UK’s event industry, hosting a variety of notable events, including the London Art Fair, HIX, and the Surface Design Show, along with over 130 other exhibitions each year.
The venue boasts approximately 6,000 square meters of dedicated event and conference space, along with an additional 12,500 square meters of showroom, office, and serviced office space. These facilities make the BDC a versatile and sought-after destination for industry leaders, exhibitors, and business clients. The estate also holds the freehold title to land housing the Hilton Hotel in Islington, further elevating its value as a premium asset in London’s real estate and business landscape.
ADNEC’s acquisition of the BDC aligns with its mission to drive growth in the global events sector. With this addition, ADNEC’s portfolio now encompasses several high-profile event venues, including the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Al Ain Convention Centre, and Capital Gate. ExCeL London, which ADNEC acquired in 2008 and later expanded by 25,000 square meters, has also benefited from ADNEC’s commitment to enhancing event infrastructure.
